A Virginia man was detained after unlawfully contacting a child in Valdosta
VALDOSTA, Ga. (Lowndesboeheadstart.org) – A Virginia man is behind bars after reportedly making inappropriate contact with a minor, according to the Valdosta Police Department (VPD).
On June 21, a Valdosta resident reported to police that she had seen “inappropriate contact” between an adult man and her 7-year-old niece. The communication involved explicit images, according to a police release.
The VPD identified the man as Kyle Flores, 22, based on the niece’s account. She said she met Flores through an app called “Monkey Cool.”
Valdosta police collaborated with Lowndes County officials and authorities in Fairfax County, Virginia, where Flores resided, to apprehend him.
Flores was arrested in Virginia and charged with:
- Obscene internet contact with a child
- Sexually explicit conduct involving a minor
- Child molestation
- Furnishing obscene material to a minor
He is currently held in Fairfax County, Virginia, awaiting extradition to Lowndes County.
In light of the incident, the Valdosta Police Department has issued a warning to parents with young children.
“This was outstanding teamwork by numerous agencies to get this sexual predator into custody. If your children have smartphones, please pay attention to the apps they use. If you see the Monkey Cool app, know that it is being used by sexual predators to find child victims and you need to contact law enforcement. Keep monitoring your children’s phones and know what apps they have access to,” said VPD Chief Leslie Manahan.
